In Nature's Realm (V přírodě), Op. 91, is the serene opening panel of the trilogy of concert overtures Dvořák composed in 1891, alongside Carnival (Op. 92) and Othello (Op. 93). The three works were originally conceived as a single unified cycle, "Nature, Life and Love," bound together by a recurring lyrical "nature" motif first introduced by solo clarinet and woven through all three scores. This overture is its most tranquil expression: a sustained pastoral reverie of birdsong figuration, warm wind writing, and broad string melody, completed on the eve of the composer's departure to lead the National Conservatory in New York.
This volume reproduces the first edition issued by N. Simrock of Berlin in 1894 (plate number 10100). Simrock was Dvořák's principal publisher and brought nearly all of his mature orchestral music into print, and this early full score circulated widely among the conductors and orchestras that established the work in the repertoire. As the earliest published version of the complete orchestral text, it remains a valuable reference for questions of phrasing, dynamics, and orchestral detail.
